In the midst of the August 'silly season', a survey has appeared which claims three-quarters of techies hate their jobs - quite a substantial proportion.

We were not surprised to hear this.

Just last month a government agency deemed IT one of the most boring jobs for graduates.

IT workers are no more disgruntled than any other profession...

And an exclusive silicon.com survey from June revealed that a third of CIOs want to change their jobs - though that was more about looking for a challenge than wanting to get out of IT entirely.

Still, when we hear techies hate their jobs, we ask 'who doesn't?'

A quick poll of most jobs, save perhaps England footballer, rock star or chocolate taster, would reveal high levels of dissatisfaction, especially among the rank and file, we would wager.

IT workers are no more disgruntled than any other profession, on average.

So does IT deserve this bad reputation? Is it really so much more tedious, arduous or underpaid than other professions?

We think not.

We could name plenty of occupations which we would be far less inclined to pursue.

But perhaps we are alone in this. We want to know what you think. Do IT workers have it hard? Are they more dissatisfied than any other profession? Let us know by emailing editorial@silicon.com or posting a Reader Comment below.
