Nearly one-quarter of silicon.com readers have racked up expenses with a price-tag akin to the cost of a Rolex watch.

In the latest silicon.com reader poll, 22 per cent of respondents said the biggest expenses claim they have ever submitted totalled more than £5,000.

But while some are making the company credit card sweat - whether it's by entertaining clients, flying off to oversee offshore operations or ordering a new batch of servers - other readers are costing their bosses a much more modest amount.

One-quarter (25 per cent) of respondents said their biggest expenses claim was in the region of £250 to £1,000, while one-fifth (20 per cent) said they have only ever claimed for less than £250, enough to buy a bottle of Cristal vintage champagne.

The rest of the poll respondents were split between expenses claims in the region of £1,000 to £5,000: 17 per cent confessed to amassing an expenses bill between £1,001 and £2,000, while 16 per cent said they have submitted a claim in the region of £2,001 and £5,000.
