CIO Job Report: Movers and shakers

New appointments

Banking group UBS appointed a new CTO and head of information technology infrastructure. Peter Sany, formerly group CIO at Deutsche Telekom, will take on UBS's technology strategy from 1 April.

Richard K Anderson has been named as the new CIO for financial consultancy KPMG and will lead the firm's information technology services group. Anderson's predecessor, Rowan Snyder, has now retired.

International law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer recruited a new global CIO in the shape of Paul Domnick. Domnick will lead a team of 200 and will, among other things, oversee infrastructure operations, helpdesk support and technical architecture.

Meanwhile, Simon Mouncer has been appointed head of business change and IT for UK electronics, domestic appliance and household furniture retailer, BrightHouse. Mouncer was previously head of commercial finance at the company.

Former Tesco CIO Colin Cobain joined HM Revenue and Customs as a non-executive director this month. As member of the board, the 2007 CNET Networks UK Technology Awards CIO of the Year will contribute to the HMRC's strategic leadership.

CIOs wanted

The HMRC is in the market for a new CIO. Based in central London with a £180,000 salary, the role will involve overseeing around 1,400 staff and a £1bn annual budget, as well as looking after one of the largest outsourcing contracts in the UK.

The University of Birmingham is advertising for a new director of IT services to help push forward its IT strategy and operations. Leading a team of around 150 people, the new CIO will also be contributing to the overall direction and management of the university.

Leeds Metropolitan University is set to appoint a new head of technology services shortly, following the closure of applications for the post.

Nominet, the internet registry for dot-uk domain names, is advertising for a director of IT based in Oxford with a £100,000 salary. The new recruit will be a key member of the senior management team and be involved in the strategic development of the business.

And finally, the Basingstoke and North Hampshire NHS Foundation Trust is after a new CIO and is offering a £100,000 salary. The role requires someone who has a "clear vision for how technology can be used to support high quality clinical care".
