I love these kind of reports, I don't think anyone could deny that there is a need for more women in the IT sector, however making statements such as these does nothing to help. What would help would be if the stats were given some kind of context such as how different are these stats to the numbers for other areas of "professional" industry and also whether this has any kind of correlation to the availability of the right types of jobs in the specific arena the person trained to work in, rather than grouping all science and technology types together.
Also as a slight aside I've got two male friends who went to University both got 2.1's. One of them studied IT and now can't get a job in the Industry and instead works two years later as a very low level admin person for a large mortgage company. The other got a degree with the intention of becoming a sound engineer, he's a great musician and did work for a short time as a sound engineer but only on a very short term contract basis so instead of chasing his dream he's now ended up in IT.
