I would love to work in IT and did for several years. However I committed the cardinal sin of taking time off to look after my son. We made a decision that one of us would stay at home and as my husband was in a contract when I needed to take maternity leave he carried on. At each change of contract he ended up getting the next one not necessarily because we wanted him to be the bread winner but because I got "well you haven't worked for x amount of time". My skills are still as relevant now as when I had my son but agencies won't even put me forward. I would love to return to work and put my skills to good use but so far no luck. Just how many other women are in the same situation. You are damned if you take responsibility for your children and damned if you don't.
