I'm turning 60 this month and have recently sent my latest business book to my publisher. I have been looking for work in IT for over 10 months and many times have been refered to as too senior, too experienced, etc., mostly by recruiters who follow a specific script looking for cheap, young labour. There is ageism as evident by the fact that a birthdate is required before any discussion begins or the job description indicates that the 'normal' retirement age is 60. I continue to work on finding a job while I marvel at the comments in this column.
