Transparency is important, but clearly it is impossible to announce everyone's pay. In my experience the perception of unequal pay by women is greater than the reality. I have been in the IT industry for 40 years and much has changed. Certainly there has been discrimination (although I have seen none in recent years), but I have also seen women talk about discrimination when I knew (but couldn't prove) that they were actually paid equally, or possibly even better ( because they were so hyper about it) than their male counterparts
