I became a dad for the first time almost a year ago and nearly had a total breakdown trying to balance the stress of a job that has seen offshoring and redundancies abound in the last 5 years, with a screaming baby that only needs 1 hour of sleep at night. My company doesn't give a hoot (and why should it?) but thankfully my boss has seen how I look in the morning and has not questioned what time I come in.
I consider myself in the upper levels of what I do and I honestly sit almost every day and work out what other (non-IT) career I might follow. Just giving paternity leave doesnt solve the problem (although it is a great help in the early weeks) as this industry has a habit of grinding people down 24/7.
This industry cannot go on like this.
