I decided I wanted to leave my last IT post as I was fed up with the daily commute and restrictions working had placed on my life.
My employer didn't want me to leave and offered me the option to work for them on a 'ad hoc' basis from home.
I now work from home using a VPN which connects to my old work PC by VNC.
It's not the best solution as the VNC connection can be tediously slow, and if anybody switches on my old PC monitor they can see me working, but I love it.
I work when I want to, which is more likely in the late evenings and I don't get interrupted all the time by telephone calls and e-mails (the old workforce has been instructed not to e-mail or telephone me at home).
I think people who work in IT should get the chance to do it, I can program just as well at home as I can in the office and I am a lot happier!
