Spot on. 100%.
I saw ageism in The City when I was 30. I am now 50 and it has not changed a bit.
Most of the people 'buying' staff (contract or perm) are in their mid to late 20s and, mostly, they will not hire people older than themselves. They certianly will not hire people old enough to be their parents.
Changing this will take either, decades or a staff crisis of significant proportions. Such as might follow a pandemic and the loss of unprecendented numbers of humans.
Incidentally, this might be paranoia, but contract staff face this problem every week and for each new application. Permanent staff have to face it less often. If you are in your 40s and already in a permanent job - best to stay put!
