How many first time students fail in IT courses? At least with a graduate you have someone who has already proved that they have the intellectual rigours to complete a course.

Also, IT is just a tool that gets applied in almost every other walk of life. Techies that know little else other than IT can make the industry intraverted. IT often fails for being disconnected from the real world. Graduates from other disciplines could well be more open minded and bring a broader view to the party which could be no bad thing.

Why weren't the BCS and other industry bodies consulted as part of this decision? Sounds like another "We know best" decision by a bunch of Whitehall accademics with little or no real world experience. I wouldn't trust this government to buy a bag of sweeties let alone run multi-£M budgets.
