Rather than rush into recruiting network administrators with specific mobile skills, firms should consider adopting hosted mobile services, either as an interim or even a permanent solution. Hosted software is generally seen as the future for widespread mobile enterprise application uptake, as it allows each customer to have hassle free ownership of a software solution. While in the past this may have resulted in a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to mobility, now more vendors, integrators and particularly telcos are working to develop and host bespoke applications for customers. Major carriers such as Vodafone have already taken strides in providing their enterprise customers with hosted applications.
If a company takes the hosted approach, it doesn’t require a network administrator to be able to handle the management burden. And, even if the company decides that this type of skill set is required in the long-term, hosted software means the company is far less likely to get ‘locked’ into using a particular mobility solution.
