The London borough of Richmond-upon-Thames has handed a 10-year, £36m outsourcing contract to ITNet.
The UK IT services company will do help desk and IT support for 1,900 PCs, manage data and voice networks plus servers, and handle migration from legacy mainframe systems.
A major part of the contract will involve implementing a new Council Tax and Benefits system. This will be based on sx3's iWorld software.
The council's finance and purchasing system - currently running on 20 mainframe legacy systems - will be replaced using ITNet's OneGov Direct service. This, in turn, uses SAP's mySAP Business Suite and SAP's enterprise portal technology.
The deal involves the transfer of council IT assets and staff to ITNet. The outsourcer will also lead the development of Richmond's e-government strategy.
Mike Gravatt, London Borough of Richmond-upon-Thames assistant director of finance, said the local authority was looking for a low risk, high ROI solution.
