Schools in the Bradford area are to get high-speed internet access from Telewest Business, in a £2.5m five-year contract for the communications company.
Education Bradford's network upgrade is in line with its obligation to comply with government guidelines which call for the wiring of all UK schools.
The 200 schools had been using 64K, 128K or 2Mbps Frame Relay circuits but these were deemed too slow to meet the Department of Education and Skills (DfES) requirements.
Using the connectivity, students will not only be able to access the internet but link to a server farm - in this case one run by Syentrix - to use educational software over the Telewest network.
