The Labour party's official website has been hacked and defaced with a doctored picture of George Bush and Tony Blair replacing the usual mix of party news and announcements.

During Monday morning the website, www.labour.org.uk was showing a picture of George Bush holding his pet dog, onto whose neck Tony Blair's head had been pasted.

It is most likely the attack was the latest instance of so-called hacktivism - politically motivated protest attacks - relating to Blair's support for the US-led war in Iraq.

According to a report on the BBC the site was taken down and repaired by 10:00 (BST).

In the past couple of years, the growing trend of hacktivism has seen more and more attacks of this kind. During the war in Iraq a number of cyber attacks were aimed at targets such as the Al Jazeera website.
