In brief: Email threatened under export crackdown

The UK government has proposed that electronic communications become subject to the same export laws as printed material.

A white paper, published this week by the Department of Trade and Industry, would give customs officers the right to demand records of any fax or email communication that it suspected of discussing controlled technology.
