EDS picks up UK armed forces contract

The UK Ministry of Defence is consolidating its armed forces administration system as part of a £300m contract with EDS.

The Armed Forces Personnel Administration Agency (AFPAA) will migrate details from the Royal Navy, Air Force and the Army onto a single platform. Forte Software's application environment has been chosen as the platform for developing the system.

The tri-service award, due to run for 12 years, will consolidate data from the AFPAA's sites in Gosport, Worthy Down and Innsworth. The system will service 300,000 active and reserve members of the armed forces.

Rod Edwards, account director for EDS AFPPA, claimed it was a major project as it involved the consolidation of over 200 disparate systems into a generic pay engine.

The AFPPA's pay system will run on Windows NT and be modelled on the Select toolset.
