The UK Department of Education and Employment has announced a £500m package to tackle truancy and unruly classroom behaviour in British schools.

Education and Employment secretary, David Blunkett, promised that a significant amount of funding would go into the creation of computerised registration facilities to help monitor attendance.

The Pupil Grant Support scheme will be targeted at schools with a significant number of pupils with a record of difficult behaviour.
