Tele-medicine project to offer eclipse health cover

By John Oates

Published: 10 August 1999 00:26 GMT

In the event that anyone turning up to Cornwall for the eclipse on Wednesday gets injured, technology might just be able to help.

Local authorities have invested in a video conferencing system which will allow them to beam pictures of patients from cottage hospitals in the county back to consultants at big teaching hospitals for advice on treatment.

Eleven centres have been wired up and provided with cameras. The system has been set up to counter fears that heavy traffic would stop ambulances getting through.
