US schools and colleges failing Y2K deadlines

The US Department of Education has slammed the country's colleges and universities over poor preparation for the millennium bug.

Its survey revealed that only 30 per cent of US schools could confirm they'd completed preparations on mission-critical systems, while 40 per cent admitted systems wouldn't be completely ready until October at the earliest.

Executives warned that there could be delays in the delivery of funding unless systems are brought into line.
