Blackpool NHS Trust is to create an electronic patient record system with healthcare technology vendor IMS Maxims.
The system will be built on a legacy administration system installed by IMS eight years ago and is in line with the NHS Information Strategy to automate all patient records countrywide.
David Gill, chief executive of the Trust, said using IMS to take automation further into records systems is the most affordable and realistic option given the heavy investment it has made into the technology so far and the time constraints given in the NHS strategy.
The IMS platform includes facilities for patient documentation, which will be developed to form the patient record system.
