The anti-trust case against Microsoft has been sent to the Supreme Court for appeal and all business restrictions against the company have been suspended, following a decision by the US district court yesterday.
Microsoft has therefore failed in its attempt to get the case heard in the Appeals Court, but has won a victory of sorts in ensuring the restrictions were lifted.
In a landmark verdict earlier this month, Judge Thomas Penfield ordered the breakup of the company and imposed restrictions on Microsoft's business operations that were to have come into effect from September 5th.
The latest decision suspends those restrictions until all appeals have been completed, or until another appeal court reinstates them.
The US justice department has welcomed the Supreme Court appeal. However they stressed the importance of a quick resolution by the Supreme Court following the District Courts decision to suspend the restrictions.
