Honor Blackman and Alan Hansen: together at last

Both fine ambassadors for the internet...

Forget Bill Gates and Martha Lane Fox, Alan Hansen and Honor Blackman have been appointed as the new faces of the web.

Despite being self-confessed internet virgins, the football commentator and former Bond girl have been appointed by the UK government to front its latest online promotion.

Along with soap actress Lisa Riley and yachtswoman Ellen MacArthur, the stars will become 'online ambassadors' in a UK Online campaign designed to get more Britons using the web.

An internet search for the three names turns up some unexpected results. The surprise winner of the 'most Google references' is Alan Hansen with an impressive 205,000 (although it's a common name and at least some of the sites refer to one Alan Hansen, assistant professor, University of New York-Albany).

Lisa Riley also scored well with 155,000 sites, but again many of these are unrelated to the actress.

Honor Blackman scores a highly focused 19,200 - most of which appear to deal exclusively, some would say obsessively, with the former Avenger star. Blackman is also the only one of the three to have her own site (at http://www.honorblackman.com ).

The campaign website, http://www.letsallgeton.gov.uk , offers help and advice on what UK Online can do for individuals, families and businesses.

UK Online, the umbrella campaign for the government's web activity, is due to reveal its new-look site in the next two weeks.
