UKOnline: Down but not out

Government portal takes a nap...

The government's much heralded consumer portal UKOnline has been taken down by a caching problem.

A spokeswoman from the Cabinet Office, which has responsibility for the site, said at 16:15(GMT) engineers were busy fixing the problem, which should be fixed shortly.

She said no sensitive information had been compromised by the failure.
