The UK police force has carried out its largest ever operation against internet paedophiles.
Officers from 34 different police forces across the country raided 75 addresses simultaneously and seized computers found on the premises. Among those arrested were a number of professional care workers and teachers as well as a 15-year old boy.
The exact number of arrests is unclear but expected to rise as the contents of the computers' hard drives are examined.
According to reports on the BBC operation Magenta was the result of a six month investigation into paedophiles using internet chatrooms to prey upon children.
In related news, a UK man has been arrested in the US following a police sting set up to catch paedophiles.
The man, named by Ananova as Nicholas John Rayner from Dorset, was caught after a female police officer set herself up in a chatroom as a 13-year-old girl called Heather. Rayner was arrested in Oklahoma after flying out to the US to meet her. Reports state Rayner had arranged to have sex with 'Heather' during his visit.
Rayner is the seventh man to have been arrested in the sting.
