The Finnish radiation authority has said mobile base stations are safe as long as they are properly installed.
The government-funded watchdog, Säteilyturvakeskus (STUK), said citizens don't need to worry about GSM or WLAN base stations as the level of radiation they emit is very low.
STUK said the typical levels measured in properly installed stations were about 10,000 times lower than the maximum recommended.
However, if the stations are poorly installed or too near human habitats, STUK said the levels may rise, but not to a dangerous degree.
The watchdog suggested humans could be exposed to more radiation from handsets than base stations.
