BT and BT Cellnet, now O2, are among several high-tech companies to have fallen foul of the Advertising Standards Authority's regulations today.

Telewest objected to BT's claim that its broadband service is 40 times faster than dial-up connections. The complaint was upheld.

Internet hosting company Fasthosts was criticised by the watchdog for producing adverts which confused the public about what services were offered for the price quoted.

Finally from today's adjudications, Dell was asked to change brochures for the Inspiron 2500 laptop which the Authority believes are misleading.
