'GPS stalker' used mobile to track ex-girlfriend

Thought to have followed her car via the internet

A Californian man who was dumped by his girlfriend has been arrested for allegedly using a global positioning system (GPS) attached to her car to stalk her.

After his girlfriend ended their two-year relationship, he is said to have put a mobile phone with GPS on her car which switched on when the car started moving and tracked her whereabouts minute-by-minute over the internet.

He then turned up and surprised her at a range of locations, including at her brother's grave and when she went to pick up a friend at the airport.

The woman discovered her ex under her car trying to change the phone's battery and called the police who arrested him on Sunday, according to reports.

The man is accused of stalking and is now on $500,000 bail. If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to six years in jail.
