An accreditation body has been launched by the government to create a register of approved IT suppliers who comply with the e-government interoperability framework (e-GIF) and are capable of implementing large-scale IT projects.
The e-GIF sets out various technical policies and standards that ensure the interoperability of e-government systems between public sector bodies and government departments and all e-government services must comply with the e-GIF.
The new e-GIF Accreditation Authority has been set up by the Cabinet Office's e-government unit and will be delivered by the National Computing Centre (NCC).
The body will also be responsible helping develop the government's drive to improve the level of technical and programme management skills in the public sector by engaging organisations and institutions involved in IT skills development.
The launch register contains 21 approved IT suppliers including Atos Origin, Cable & Wireless, Computacenter, Fujitsu, LogicaCMG, Microsoft, Northgate Information Systems, Parity, Tata, Thales, Unisys, Vertex and Xansa.
Details of the accreditation scheme and the register can be found here.
