Alun Michael could not be any less successful than the abysmal Douglas Alexander was as e-commerce minister.

IT, like pensions, is a highly technical area, but this government tends to regard loyalty, rather than expertise, as the primary criterion for ministerial appointment. Maybe next time we'll see Blair appoint a dog.
