Well said, as usual:

Turmoil over those ghastly "cartoons" seems less the result of protesters actually seeing the puerile originals and more the result of hearing distorted accounts or of seeing mischievous fakes.

However offensive, wider publication might have shown them for what they were and defused the situation.

Garbled inaccurate accounts repeatedly broadcast by the media, including the BBC, have not helped.

Fortunately, (with a little searching and persistence) the Internet still allows people to judge for themselves.
