What is a 'user interface patent'? Is this an attempt by lawyers to try and control use of fingers, eyes and mouths?

Some things are relevant to be patented, most are not. Patents should involve new or novel technology, not concepts. How on earth someone can even consider wasting money on trying to patent something that can be built or rearranged out of standard components is incomprehensible. You may as well try and patent using bricks to build a house!

If senior managers had the wits and understanding to control their voracious legal departments then perhaps they could run their businesses around the core activities far better.
