Employers ignore recycling
Organisations 'could do better', finds silicon.com research...

Despite a growing awareness of the need for private and public sector organisations to operate in an environmentally friendly manner few companies are still doing enough to recycle everything they should - from paper to IT hardware.

In fact a poll put to readers of silicon.com found that despite increased coverage of green legislation and the compelling reasons why companies must get up to speed with their environmental policy, few have changed their practices over the past year.

The recent poll, to coincide with Earth Day and a series of environmentally focused articles on silicon.com, found that 73 per cent of respondents believe their employer isn't doing enough to recycle items such as paper and end-of-life IT kit.

Last year we posed the same question and found that 79 per cent of respondents at the time reported a similar state of affairs.

The findings, illustrated below, show organisations have made limited progress in addressing environmental issues within the workplace despite the pressing issue of corporate and social responsibility and dawning legislation such as the Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment Directive.
