The Chicago Board of Trade (Cbot) is expected to announce close ties with the Swiss-German Eurex derivatives organisation shortly. A source close to the situation told Silicon News that the adoption of a similar system for its 'side by side' electronic trading is likely.
The exchange voted to adopt electronic trading to run beside its open outcry trading pits by the end of September, and this system will be based on the exchange's Project A 'out of hours' trading network.
The company stated its intention to link Project A with Eurex last March, but the source revealed to Silicon News that the Project A APIs will not be released to third party software developers. Instead, it will mirror the existing Eurex systsm.
The source said: "It makes a lot of sense to go with the [Eurex] system. It is very good. Why throw development money at two separate systems?"
A spokeswoman denied the exchange has decided to go with Eurex, but refused to rule it out. "We are considering it," she admitted.
