Lucent Technologies has launched a software package aimed at developing Windows-based applications for speech-enabled products.
The package, called Lucent Speech Application Platform, is based on research conducted over 20 years at Bell Labs.
At the same time, the company said it will work with Intel to develop remote products using text-to-speech technology.
The Lucent Speech Application Platform will be distributed on CD-ROM. According to the company, it will allow developers to build applications such as email readers, voice-controlled Web browsers, and automatic news readers.
