IBM is to make Internet access easier for visually impaired people. Using its ViaVoice technology, the company's Home Page Reader software for Windows reads information from Web sites out loud.
Text, tables and graphic descriptions are read aloud by a male voice, whilst links are read by a female voice. Home Page Reader will cost $249 and will be released in the US in January 1999. The company has not disclosed when it will be available in Europe.
