A consortium of Linux distributors has launched a campaign to bring the open source operating system to the attention of senior executives.

IT managers have long favoured open source systems. But Linuxcare, Red Hat and VA Linux Systems yesterday launched a series of free online seminars for the benefit of CEOs and CIOs.

The "Linux - So What?" seminars consist of nine streamed video presentations, hosted by Jon "Mad Dog" Hall, executive director of Linux International and Eric Raymond, amongst others.

The sponsors refused to disclose how much they are investing in the scheme.

The seminars will be broadcast weekly from September 15. You can register at http://linux.com/linux@work/eseminar.phtml
