Siemens to sell retail and banking systems division

By Tony Hallett

Published: 18 October 1999 17:48 GMT

Siemens has confirmed it is negotiating the sale of its Nixdorf retail and banking systems division which supplies ATMs for banks such as Barclays.

According to UK paper, the Sunday Telegraph, the asking price is £460m. Siemens declined to confirm the report.

However, the German company admitted it is close to concluding talks with US leveraged buyout group Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, "and a further partner".

Schroder Ventures was rumoured to have been interested in Nixdorf, as was ICL - however a sale to the UK systems and services provider may not have satisfied the European Commission, which is pushing a Nixdorf divestiture as a prerequisite to Siemens' joint venture with Fujitsu, owner of ICL.
