Abbey National today launched a digital TV banking service through interactive television provider, Open.

Only 500 of the bank's customers will have digital TV access to their accounts today, but the service will open to all Abbey National's e-banking customers next week.

Open is the first provider to go live with the service, with Cable & Wireless, NTL, OnDigital and Telewest following by the end of the year.

The bank went live with e-banking in May, and currently claims to have 400,000 customers registered for the service. One million customers are expected to be online by June next year.

Abbey National launched a separate internet bank venture, cahoot.com, in June.
