Surpriseyourwoman.com goes down on users

Start-up surpriseyourwomen.com's website was down for most of today despite being supported by 'reliable and seamless' technology from IBM and Intel.

Launched in December and officially live since 5 February, the website runs on IBM's WebSphere Commerce Suite, is managed by its MQSeries software, and is based on the DB2 database. The site is co-hosted by PSINet, on 'reliable and seamless' x-series Intel-based servers.

Although an IBM spokesman initially said the site went down due to 'routine testing', Dheraz Dar, marketing director of surpriseyourwomen.com, said: "The site went down due to the increase in traffic."

The start-up sends emails to male users to remind them of important dates during the year. It also offers lifestyle advice to men to help them keep their partners happy.

Dar added that a new site, surpriseyourman.com, will be launched in the summer.

silicon.com first heard about the technical problems from a reader of the latest edition of the Weekly Round-Up, which covered the launch. The column's author is rumoured to be taking full responsibility for the increase in traffic surpriseyourwoman.com experienced.
