IT directors shy away from VoIP savings

Voice over IP (VoIP) telephony is being shunned by 71 per cent of European businesses, despite the fact that they know it could save them money.

According to a survey by market intelligence company Rhetorik, 59 per cent of respondents are nervous because they don't feel the technology is mature enough.

Fears about the cost of implementation and the lack of end-to-end quality of service guarantees also scared IT directors off.

However, 71 per cent of the 284 IT directors surveyed were aware that VoIP could cut telephony costs, with only 20 per cent still sceptical about the possible savings.
