silicon.com's Agenda Setters 2001 poll has once again revealed the key figures we believe will be setting the pace in the technology sector for the next twelve months.

Taking top spot this year is Steve Case, chairman of AOL Time Warner. The man behind the formation of the world's largest media company pushes last year's number 1, Vodafone CEO Chris Gent, into second place, with John Chambers, Cisco's hardcore CEO at number 3.

Beyond the top three the list is a diverse mix of movers and shakers. Reflecting the global nature of the technology sector this year's list has a truly international flavour. The top ten alone boasts six different nationalities.
For example, everyone's favourite high-tech heavyweight Bill Gates rises five places this year to 7, but is still beaten by Nokia's Jorma Ollila and the head of German media giant Bertelsmann, Thomas Middelhoff.

Of course, a year is a long time in IT and for none more so than those who have fallen out of the top 50 since last year's list was compiled. Notable absentees include former dot-com darling Martha Lane-Fox and struggling Apple entrepreneur Steve Jobs.
