Scott McNealy, Sun Microsystems' chairman and CEO, has hit out at IBM by questioning the motive behind its customer relationship strategy.
Speaking at the launch of Sun's latest server offering in New York, McNealy said: "IBM's strategy goes something like: 'If you've got a wallet, we've got a hoover. We'll stay till we solve your problem or until you run out of money.'"
McNealy said IBM does not use architecture, software and hardware to solve customer problems, but solves them with "billable people".
McNealy also had a strong opinion on Microsoft's technology .Net, which competes with Sun's One offering: "The .Net hairball runs through everything it does," he said.
"You buy one piece, you've got to buy the whole thing."
He added: "We have a very focused, very simple product line with a lot of R&D behind it. If IBM could do it, it would."
