DHL halves accounting costs

But the company assures staff needn't fear for their jobs...

DHL Worldwide Express claims it will halve the cost of its accounts payable function using Tranmit's e-payables software, a system used to authorise payments from DHL's suppliers.

The centralised system will enable the same job to be carried out with just 30 staff instead of 62 clerks needed to process the 400,000 invoices received each year under the old regime, according to DHL.

However, Vincent Chesney, change director of European Services at DHL, told silicon.com the company will not "be cutting back on staff", even though they require less employees.

The company is yet to fill the 32 vacancies available.

The overhaul will mean DHL operations in 16 European countries sharing a single scaled-down accounts payable department by 2003.
