
Cable deal in US a boost to less than stellar division...

Microsoft has secured a deal to have its software used in around a million homes subscribing to services from the fourth largest cable company in the US.
Charter Communications is extending trials of its interactive services in a major boost to the software giant. It can only count a handful of contract wins to date - such as TV Cabo in Portugal - and offerings such as WebTV have struggled to gain acceptance.
Charter's chairman is Paul Allen, who along with Bill Gates co-founded Microsoft in 1975.
