Novell in rude health following NHS deal

Three-year, £9m deal...

Novell has built on its recent success in the public sector by signing a £9m software deal with the NHS.

The three-year contract is an example of government agencies' growing desire to centralise purchasing in an attempt to get better value for money from software suppliers.

The NHS said it will save £18m by negotiating the software deal across the organisation rather than letting individual trusts strike their own deals.

The contract includes Novell's network operating system Netware, its messaging package Groupwise, and security and web services software.

Steve Brown, regional director for Novell UK and EMEA, said: "We're building on a solid installed base in the health sector and good innovations from many of our users. And we're delivering best value for the health service."
