CSC has reported sales of $2.7bn for its second quarter ending 27 September, down 1.2 per cent year-on-year. But its profits of $92.9m were 35 per cent up compared to the year ago period, which included the two weeks after 11 September.

The IT services giant has also announced it is in final negotiations for a contract potentially worth $670m over seven years to supply Canada's Bombardier Transportation with desktop, help desk, call centre, data centre and network and application management support.

About 625 Bombardier staff around the world are expected to transfer to CSC in February next year.

Bombardier is in the transportation industry and said it expects its rail equipment business to benefit by CSC helping roll out new infrastructure, to reduce costs and streamline IT.
