Redstone flexes its portfolio

Targets workers increasingly hard to tie down

Redstone Communications has become the latest company to target flexible working as a growth area with the announcement of a Remote Worker range of products and services.

In response to growing demand and flexible working legislation that came into effect in the UK in April this year, Redstone is combining IP VPN connectivity, broadband, wireless, filtering, remote management, support and other services for home workers, business travellers and road warriors.

Its offering is made possible by its partnerships with companies such as Avaya, BT Wholesale, Cisco and Siemens and has been endorsed by flexible working advocates.

"The number of teleworkers has doubled from one to two million in six years and that number could double again over the next six years," said Alan Denbigh, Telework Association executive director, welcoming the Redstone launch.

Redstone maintains technology - rather than attitudes or planning - is the main thing holding back flexible working. It cites a recent Microsoft-commissioned study that found 75 per cent of companies do not believe their IT infrastructure is safe or secure enough to allow it.

The DTI last year found most employers had not considered flexible working and have no remote working or mobility strategies.
