Auntie Beeb announces outsourcing winners and losers

Technology sell-off approaches

The three companies that have got through to the next round of the Beeb's £2bn IT services procurement fight have been announced – CSC, Accenture and Siemens.

Following a strategic review that predicted savings of between 20 per cent and 30 per cent if Auntie's technology services were outsourced, they were put out to tender and the BBC Technology unit put up for sale.

The second-round shortlist of eight has now been sliced to three, with John Varney, the BBC's CTO, saying in a statement that the shortlisted companies were picked because they have "shown [the] cultural alignment with the BBC that is one of the most important parts of this contract".

The overall contract winner is expected to be announced during the next few months. The sale of the technology unit is subject to the approval of the Secretary of State for culture, media and sport.
