AT&T Park is only seven years old and Schlough says that gives him some advantages over those of his peers trying to implement new technology in old stadiums such as Fenway Park, Boston, or Wrigley Field, Chicago. However, he's no advocate for tearing down such monuments to the sport as wireless networking enables CIOs to bypass the issue of installing wires and pulling cable.

"I don't think you need to take down the old stadiums and replace them. I think wireless is now helping them to catch up a lot," he said.

But other teams have nothing like the commitment to technology that Schlough enjoys at the Giants, he said.

He manages a team of 10 people, compared to many of his peers who are a one-man department.
